Join Karin for a fun, informative, inspiring and entertaining workshop! Karin has taught for many years and has paired her love of teaching and student requests to design a number of amazing art classes.

Whether you want to learn the basics of watercolour, explore new techniques, update your watercolour painting skills, nourish your creative spirit, become an artist, or just have a fun, and rewarding creative experience we have something for YOU! AND it’s good for you - mind, body and spirit!

Come and enjoy a day of creative play. These workshops supply you with a good measure of fun, creative exploration and fine company. Classes are small, lighthearted, filled with information and inspiration! In person, classes take place in NW Calgary, Alberta, unless otherwise listed here. Custom classes take place at a mutually agreeable venue.

SIP N’ DIP WATERCOLOUR FUN SESSIONS

Is it time for a little painting party? Would you like to share some quality and fun time with a few friends, family, foes!, co-workers? Let’s book some fun!

It is well recognized that painting is uplifting for the body, mind and soul. So, if you are looking for a fun, creative and entertaining way to get together with friends – this is it. You supply the friends, food and sips and I'll supply all the art supplies, information, inspiration and endeavor to be entertaining too! Fun and easy!

Sip n’ Dip watercolour painting parties are generally one to two hours long. Let me know if you would like a longer session.

  • Party size is generally 6 - 10 people.

  • Travel outside of Calgary is an additional fee.

  • Art supplies are including in the fee.

Class Fee: To be determined plus $15.00 per person for supplies (minimum 6 people)

DRAW, DESIGN, PAINT

on canvas! – Watercolour and Mixed Media.

Through a series of fun exercises, you can explore and discover your own design style! In this informative workshop, you will be working on specially prepared small canvas – perfect for fast and fun experimentation. Using references of your choice you will design your artwork, transfer it to a canvas, then apply watercolour. Your painting is finished using acrylic mediums. You should have a completed masterpiece, ready to hang, by the end of the day!

A LITTLE WATERCOLOUR

This is a fun, fast-paced class geared to beginner and experienced painters alike.

If you have never painted before, you will have lots of fun learning many watercolour techniques in a no-pressure setting. By painting on very small watercolour paper (2.5″ X 3.5″) and working in a series, you can play and learn to your heart’s content. If you have painted before, this class will help generate lots of ideas and inspire you to try things you hadn’t tried before. If you have taken this class before, this is a great review! The day will end with an instructive/constructive critique.

A LITTLE MORE WATERCOLOUR

There are so many wonderful ways to manipulate watercolour!

Add several more techniques to your repertoire! You will work on small size paper (2.5″ X 3.5″) - perfect for much exploration. We will play with more lifting techniques; brush possibilities – their shapes and marks; glazing, graded washes, negative painting, and mark making with some interesting tools and ink.

If you have some painting experience or are an adventurous beginner – this class is for you! Constructive/instructive critique at the end of the day.

LITTLE WATERCOLOUR - COLOUR CLASS

This FUN class will explore the COLOURS in your palette and some of the many ways to use and exploit them in your painting. 

Use this opportunity to discover and make some amazing colour choices and learn from some not so great choices too! This class is meant to make colour exploration fun and interesting and useable and loveable too!!

We will explore:

  • why sometimes red and blue don't make purple!

  • monochromatic value studies

  • limited palette 

  • unusual colour combinations

  • tackling greens

  • mixing just the right colour

  • making and using neutrals

  • and more - you know there will be more

GEOMETRICALLY INSPIRED MANDALA

Using some basic tools - ruler, compass, shape templates - you can create a wide range of beautiful mandalas.

We will explore free form as well as geometrically correct compositions. Watercolour and ink make this artform magical!

LITTLE WATERCOLOUR - BRUSHES!

Do you know how amazing your brushes can be? 

And that you can really push them around and paint some amazing, fantastic art just with a twist or a turn or an edge or a tip?  Put paint on  - take paint off!!
Bring your painting genius up a few notches in this fun class. We will play with a variety of brushes and be amazed and surprised with what you can get out of this magical tool!! All Levels.


THE CREATIVE MANDALA – WATERCOLOUR & MORE

Karin offers a variety workshops in the mandala format. These can be done separately or a few or all in a workshop. Time dependent!

ArtVenture into the blissful state of creative contemplation! Mandala is a beautiful art form often used for meditation, healing and introspection. During these sessions, students will enjoy a fun, creative experience discovering boundless design possibilities “inside the circle.” Free form to geometrically inspired designs coupled with a selected theme will inspire you to discover your designing eye. A variety of techniques, tools, mediums and papers will be implemented. Discover the wonder and joy in creating beautiful and personal artful mandalas.

WATERCOLOUR PEBBLES

Using pen/ink and plenty of colours you will explore many watercolour techniques culminating in a beautiful work of art.

This really is a great way to try out everything watercolour on one piece of paper! A relaxing and rewarding experience!

STORY IN THE CIRCLE

What do ink, watercolour and a scavenger hunt have in common?

Come and find out with a Designing with Line – a Watercolour Workshop! Stretch your imagination. In this workshop. In this workshop we will explore personal mark making using pen/ink, watercolour and waterbrush. Collecting motifs and inspiration from your surroundings, you will create a unique visual record of your experience. Alternate sizes and shapes of paper are also considered. This is also an excellent way to record your memories of vacation time!


STROKE WORK FLORAL MANDALA

Learn simple stroke flowers and leaves - play with colour and design to create a beautiful watercolour mandala.

An excellent lesson in mark making, brush manipulation, colour and design. You will finish at least one beautiful mandala ready for framing or gifting. You will be amazed and delighted with what you will create using this method of painting!


CIRCLE OF DESIRE. CIRCLE OF BLESSINGS. CIRCLE OF GRATITUDE.

Create a beautiful and very personal MANDALA for yourself or someone close to your heart.

In this relaxing and meditative session, you will design a work filled with intentions of goodwill, good wishes and abundant blessings or gratitude or desires. Let's light some candles, pour the tea and paint and draw thoughtfully and intuitively. It’s freeform design followed by ink embellishments and then painted. We will be using regular watercolour, plus iridescent/duochrome/interference watercolours, ink, pencil crayon, etc. Your finished work can be mounted on cardstock or framed.


MARK MAKING MANDALA

There are all kinds of shapes and sizes of brushes out there.

This is a wonderful workshop to explore what a great variety of marks your brushes can make. Working in patterns inside the circle is a worthwhile and highly recommended discipline. It's also a great exercise experimenting with colour. These mandalas are meditative, relaxing, inspiring and encourage quiet intuiting.

RANDOM ACTS OF MARK MAKING!

The Lighter Side of Watercolour


Muck about with joyful abandon using watercolour on paper! We will create a page of wild and free uninhibited painting based on technical and gestural aspects of watercolour. Then by the magic of small focus, we will extract the hidden gems we have arbitrarily created. You will be surprised and delighted. An excellent exercise in loosening up! We will keep things light-hearted and enjoy a laugh or two along the way.

WATERCOLOUR POSTCARDS

With love from me to you.......

Come join in the fun! In this age of technology, the notion of sending a postcard has gotten lost! You will be creating postcard-size works of art that can be snail-mailed to someone special - this could include yourself! Students are encouraged to discover their own personal style of painting with an emphasis on having FUN! (of course!)

Where might your postcard be from? Any place or time; real or imagined? Perhaps a note of thanks or encouragement from the heart? From a dream vacation? Postcard to GOD? Possibilities are limitless!

We will glean ideas from some references and of course working from your magnificent imagination!

Class includes exercises and demonstrations to increase your knowledge of watercolour and it's fantastic capabilities. And stamps........ don't forget the stamps!!

WATERCOLOUR – ON THE GO!!

Let us paint the day – whatever weather comes our way.

Join Karin in this fun-filled class and get those creative juices flowing wherever you go! Whether you are on a beach, a boat, a bench, in bed! or your own backyard, you will be inspired with practical information, fun exercises, and many creative tips. Just some of the topics we will explore are: creating your very own portable studio, mixing greens, finding your viewpoint, motif gathering, using the amazing water brush, and much more.

With brush, watercolour, an assortment of interesting mark making and drawing tools, you can record your own personal experiences in a fun and artful fashion. Karin will present you with a myriad of ideas for painting on the go. Students will work on postcard size paper (approx. 5” x 7”). These are easy to transport, work on and can also be mailed. This class will be held both indoors and outside (weather permitting).

Immerse yourself in the ultimate beauty of watercolour.

In this Flow and Glow class, we will explore just how magical and wondrous watercolour can be. Using Karin's signature technique of pouring, you will create stunning works on a variety of sizes of paper. We'll explore colour choices, paper options, foreground possibilities and more. BLOSSOMS AND VESSELS

Magical FUN! Let your imagination bloom! Create unique flowers, foliage and the things they're in with this fun, organic approach to design.

Drawing on your inner library, references and visual cues you'll enjoy the freedom to create personally inspired imaginary blossoms and vessels. Step by step explorations for gathering leaf, stem, flower and vessel motifs. Based on Karin’s acclaimed "Blossoms and Vessels" series.

WATERCOLOUR – WINTER WONDERLAND

Spend the day inside painting what’s outside! Using magical watercolour special effects techniques, you will capture the beauty of the winter landscape.

We will look at a limited palette, high and low contrast, mood and light. Just a fun day to “play in the snow!” Students will be working on premium pre-cut watercolour paper.

Includes artist grade pre-cut watercolour paper, use of tape, pens, and some supplies

MAKE YOUR OWN WATERCOLOUR JOURNAL

Ready & Waiting for YOU to get creative in! 

Construct this simple, practical and beautiful little booklet – perfect for watercolour, writing, painting, doodling, sewing, glueing, punching, scribbling cutting......... anything you like. This booklet has 12 pages of water media paper and the entire cover is blank watercolour paper – NOW that's a lot of space for you to create on! 

Karin will share lots of ideas for arting around in your journal!

Included are enough supplies for two journals. Finished size is approx 5" x 3.5" x 15" Once you have the "know how" you can customize sizes and paper choices to suit your personal needs. All levels.

CREATIVE CONTEMPLATION – ONE DAY RETREAT

Cochrane, Alberta, Mt. St. Francis Retreat Centre (or your choice of other suitable location) Gift yourself some creative and quiet time.

The morning will be spent exploring watercolour and ink sketching techniques with opportunities to journal. Gathering ideas and inspiration from our amazing surroundings you will create a unique and personal record of your time here. After lunch, the afternoon will be spent in blessed silence. You will have ample time to sketch, paint, write, ponder, walk, revel in the silence and just BE. These skills and ideas can be employed and enjoyed wherever you may wander! No experience necessary. Supply list upon registration.

PRINTING FROM NATURE

Using real leaves, a meditative mindset and beautiful watercolour we will capture a moment in nature.

Working on a couple of watercolour papers, we will explore composition, colour choices, intuitive design and organic mark making. You will likely have a beautifully finished piece by the end of the session. All Levels.

MINI CANVAS CLASS

Create a few small original works of art – perfect for gifting or keeping!

You will work on several small canvases and paper using ink and watercolour. This workshop takes you from canvas prep to the final coat of varnish – ready to hang! We will explore design ideas and personal mark-making. Based on Karin's popular DVD: Draw, Design, Paint.

THE THREEFOLD CLASS

Tint and fold a nifty little origami booklet to hold your very own original watercolours paintings that you will create in class. A perfect little gift for yourself or someone you love.

Working on a variety of watercolour papers we will explore a little easy drawing/designing and then paint using the amazing waterbrush! This will include ways of colour mixing with an emphasis on creating some fabulous greens.

A fun and rewarding experience.

Karin’s light-hearted classes will provide you with a good measure of fun, creative exploration and inspiration. Let's create a great experience together!

Just choose from any of the workshops currently offered and we can make it happen from there. Classes can be just a few hours or a few days! Karin also does out of town workshops. For more information and to book your workshop contact arts@huehold.ca. Class Fee to be negotiated.


cancellation policy:

Huehold Arts reserves the right to reschedule or cancel a workshop due to instructor conflicts or insufficient registration. Minimum registrant requirements vary. We strive to let students know if a workshop has to be rescheduled or cancelled 48 hours or two business days before the event.
If Huehold Arts cancels a workshop, you will be given the option to transfer to a later date, or be issued a credit towards a future workshop of your choice, or be given a refund.
If you cancel 14 days or less before your class start date, you will forfeit your entire class fee. There will be a full refund if your spot can be filled.

REFUND POLICY:

If you would like to cancel your attendance, email you cancellation request as soon as possible.
No refunds are provided if you need to cancel.
A credit can be applied to future workshops or original art purchases or product for sale on the website.
